I did a guest lecture Tuesday night at Ignition, a coding school run by Spark Boulder that prepares students for their first coding internship. It was fun and I learned a lot about how to improve lecturing abilities. I also got a lot of good questions and one question that I didn’t think I answered well Read More: Selectors in JavaScript – IDs, Data Attributes, or Classes
I took a couple hours today and last week to get some Node.js practice. I built a basic app that can take an image upload and display it. The app was surprisingly simple to write. I used two packages: node-formidable for parsing form data and fs for handling the image.
I think I’ve said this before, but I love when I get a project that I code from the ground up. I like it for several reasons, the most significant of which is that I take pride in the cleanliness of my code. I try to do everything with the least amount of lines possible. I’ve done several projects and many updates for Sherwin over the past year, but nothing that was significant until recently. This site is a beast. The client didn’t have us build the site originally but they’ve had us do all the updates (not good, I hate some people’s code). In addition, the site uses WordPress multi-site which Read More: Brands @ Sherwin Williams Product Redesign
ClearChoice.com was originally built in Drupal and their team decided to port it to WordPress for several strategic reasons. I was given access to the old site and a charge to re-create the whole thing, except the scheduler (which was ported over by Randy Lybert). This was a fun project because I tried to build Read More: ClearChoice Migration
One of the things I’m really happy about my last year at Voltage is my focus on creating reusable snippets of code that can be used to quickly deploy features on client sites. I’ve made my repository of code_snippets publicly available so that anyone can take advantage of them. Note, these are not for beginners, Read More: Code Snippets
When I first got this project, I was hesitant. The goal was to port their old site (which was a mix of one Joomla install and several WordPress sites) into one consistent WordPress install; oh, and not lose money on the project. It turned out to be very difficult. One of the big learnings from Read More: UpYourService Re-design
Catching up on some projects that I haven’t talked about yet… Primus was the first ecommerce site I built from the ground up on Shopify. It was a good learning experience. Overall, I like Shopify’s platform. It turned out to be easier than I thought it would be to customize the main and collection page Read More: Primus Camping
Buink is a great place to work, as well as a great place to have quality software written. I originally contracted Buink for some web development, and it worked out so well we began working together on many different projects. Definitely an honest transparent company that needs to be considered for your software needs.
Response from the owner: Thanks for the kind words Dave!
